The Story

When I was 15 years old I discovered knife making. I instantly knew that I needed to do this and have been learning ever since. My name is Jacob Blackman and welcome to Blackman Knife Co!

My first anvil when I started bladesmithing

This is where it all started for me. A cheap anvil on a tree stump.

My name is Jacob Blackman. I am a 23-year-old chap looking to make knives for a living…

My freshman year of high school is when I found knife making as a hobby. My first knife was made out of sheet metal and a 2x4. I even made a leather sheath for it. I tried many times to heat treat my first knife and it was then that I realized how deep the rabbit hole went. I asked for proper steel and better equipment every Christmas and spent what little money I had on any tool I could afford. In 2020, I made two knives worth selling and commissioned their sale on Arizona Custom Knives. At the same time, I had been commissioned to make a Bowie for my neighbor using some mule deer antler from one of his hunts. By far it was the hardest knife I had made at the time but the experience was rewarding. After that, I continued making knives as a hobby until this year, when I decided to finally go all in.

I make knives because they are a perfect combination of practical application and creative expression. Every knife should do the same thing but not all knife makers do it the same way. They all end up with their own personal style. I believe that all knives should be sharp and look sharp at the same time.

Now why should you buy from me? I am a small business owner in the heat of Arizona in the USA. I try to source all my material from other US based companies and A/C here is expensive. You can buy cheap knives from many other places around the world but why waste the opportunity to support the work of a small American business.
